Weekly Update - 12/26

Happy Holidays to all!! There is not much to send as far as a recap. This past week we had practice on Tue-Wed-Thurs. We had a small turnout but worked on some solid technique on top. As a coach, I always appreciate those wrestlers who go above and beyond and show up when practice was not mandatory. That is how you become a champion!! We also have some Alumni in the room during the week to train and work with our athletes. Carson Ochoa, Anthony Garcia, Jacob Roehl, Kavika Aholelei, and Tiger Ortiz all worked with our wrestlers this past week and were really helpful. This coming week we will have practice the following days:

Tuesday: 8:30am Lift, Wrestling 9:30-11:30am

Wednesday: 8:30am-11:00am Wrestling

Thursday 8:30am Lift, Wrestling 9:30-11:30am

Friday: 8:30am-11:am Wrestling

After the break, we open up with our first league dual of the season. We will wrestle Villa Park at home on Wednesday, Jan. 5th. I will be changing the start time that day because we have several wrestlers who play football and the Varsity/JV Football Banquet is that night. Stay tuned for the time changes. We will also have our Mustang Duals at school on Saturday, Jan. 8th in both gyms. We have 11 teams coming to participate in a dual tournament, should be some great competition.  The Varsity will be at San Clemente HS on Jan. 8th for the Rotary Classic

See the 12/26 email from coach Forty for details.

Week Five Recap 12/13-12/20

The Mustang wrestlers kick off the holiday season by heading up to North Las Vegas for the annual Las Vegas Holiday Classic Tournament. We had some new parents and some seasoned veteran parents who helped the team with driving and feeding all the boys who attended. I want to thank the Jaramillo's for taking on the task of the booster room! This is something we have been doing for the last 12 years. The wrestlers can come by, check their weight, get some food and drinks and get all the information they need for the day ahead. Also, Thanks to all the family drivers for caravanning the team out to Vegas: Wheeler, Silvestri, Parry, Row, and the Jaramillo's all helped Drive boys around all weekend.

The Varsity Mustangs had some great success, everyone who attended won matches, and 4 wrestlers came home with hardware. Jon Silvestri placed for the first time in a Varsity tournament at 220lbs. Ace Garcia was 5th, Spencer Parry 4th, and Joel Carvajal placed 3rd!! Great Job Mustangs!!

See the 12/20 email from coach Forty for details.

Athletes of the Week 12/13-12/20

Athletes of the Week:

Frosh/soph: Westin Kutsch, I spoke to both coaches following the tournament, and they both agreed that Westin's performance in the tournament was awesome. He is growing leaps and bounds every day and had a great weekend of wrestling!

Varsity: Joel Carvajal, Joel had a great tournament in Vegas, placing 3rd overall. He is shaking some of that rust off from football season and is starting to hit his stride!!

Good Job Guys!!

Week Four Recap 12/5-12/12

The mighty mustangs had a very productive weekend!!! We had a 2 day Varsity Tournament at Marina HS, we hosted our annual Mustang Invitational, and Sunday we hosted an incredibly successful SCWAY youth tournament. I want to thank all the parents who stepped up big time for a long weekend of wrestling. It takes an army to pull off back-to-back tournaments, and without all the help from boosters and parents, we could have never done it. Also, Thank you to all the wrestlers who worked tables, kept score, wrestled, and refed.

The Varsity finished with 3 placers in the top 8. Hats off to Tristan Wheeler, Spencer Parry and Ace Garcia for earning their way to the podium.

Frosh/Soph had another amazing weekend finishing 1st and 4th in the Mustang Invitational!! We had so many placers in the top 7. Two of our sophomores finished first in the tournament, Hadi Ibrahim and Jon Silvestri!! Great job to all that wrestled.

The lady Mustangs were in Norco for their first varsity competition. We had 3 placers in the tournament: Yuna Guiling 5th, Rikku Guiling 4th, and Karina Shah 5th. Great Job Ladies.

Athletes of the Week 12/5-12/12

Varsity: Tristan Wheeler, Tristan wrestled a great tournament!!! He is getting better every week we compete and I can't wait to see him during CIF.

Girls: Rikku Guiling once again an outstanding performance in her 1st Varsity tournament ever!!

Frosh/soph: John Silvestri and Hadi Ibrahim both had great 1st place finishes at the Mustang Invitational.

Week Three Recap 11/29-12/4

Wow!!!!! What an amazing week of wrestling. Our numbers are great, the boys are wrestling so well, and our parent and fan support is through the roof.
We kicked off our week on Wednesday with a big non-league dual against Laguna Hills. All 3 levels stepped up to the challenge and did an amazing job that night. We lost by only 3 points on the frosh/soph level, we won the JV match by 10, and had an amazing come from behind victory on the Varsity to win 38-36. My favorite match of the night was Spencer Parry moving up a weight class to defeat their team captain and returning CIF place winner in a highly contested match. I felt that match was the momentum swing for our team and helped push us to victory. With that victory, the varsity program is now 9-1 in duals for the season.

Athletes of the Week 11/29-12/4

Varsity: Spencer Parry that win on Wednesday night.. moving up a weight class, wrestling their team captain, and getting the win for his team. This was the catalyst for our victory that night and was a dual I will never forget!!

JV: Kaden Draper, An easy first-period pin on Wednesday and a dominant performance at the Big Kat, placing first overall!

Frosh/soph: Cole Nerio, Once again a tournament champion and had a great win against a quality opponent at Laguna Hills on Wednesday night.

Week Two Recap 11/22-27

I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving with family and friends. During the break at El Modena HS, we only had one competition where the Varsity team wrestled 3 matches. The first Match was against OC  8th ranked El Modena, who were CIF Runner-ups last season. The Mustangs had an outstanding performance winning the Match 45-33 with pins from Silvestri, Chapin, Parry, and both Wheeler brothers. Next, we defeated Newport Harbor 58-24. Finally, the Mustangs wrestled a tough Downey team and won 51-27. That takes the Team dual meet record to 8-1 on the season.

Athlete of the Week 11/22-27

Our Thanksgiving Holiday Wrestler of the week goes to Wyatt Wheeler, who won all 3 of his matches by Pin. Wyatt also only had one point scored against him that day, an escape where he let his opponent go. Great job Wyatt!!!
