Welcome to Yorba Linda High School Wrestling!!!
We want to welcome you to the 2021-2022 Mustang Wrestling Season. Wrestlers come in all shapes and sizes. From the lightest weight of 106 to the heavyweights up to 285. There is a place for everyone. Wrestling is a sport that teaches toughness, discipline, instills confidence and self-reliance, and through the process, they learn to respect their opponents, teammates, and themselves. The intensity of a wrestling season is hard to match. When your child is part of a wrestling program, you give them a competitive edge that will help them succeed in life. We are excited that your family has chosen to join us!

With senior/alumni night coming up next week, I find myself having a tough time writing this email because this season is really special for me because it is my 30th consecutive season coaching this amazing sport, and I have been so blessed to coach so many great wrestlers and meet so many wonderful parents of the last 30 seasons. I find myself reminiscing about seasons past and all the athletes who have made such an impact on me. I am so lucky to be a member of the wrestling community. This season like no other has made me feel young and rejuvenated. This is an incredible group of athletes and parents that we have at YLHS. This past week had its highs and lows, but we did not break under adversity and finished strong. The Varsity team, currently 9-2 in duals, lost a tough match to top-ranked Villa Park but followed it up on Saturday with a great performance at the San Clemente tournament, placing 5th overall with 2 champs (Ace and Mateo) and several placers (Will, Jon, Sam, Justin, Joel, and Matson). The Frosh/Soph team and JV dominated once again against Villa park and the next day found themselves missing some teammates due to Covid Protocols. This didn't stop them from winning the Mustang duals at YLHS with a dominating 5-0 performance. It was a lot of fun to watch how excited our coaches and young wrestlers were during their finals match for the championship against Vista Murrieta. What a great week Mustang wrestlers!!!
See the 1/9 email from coach Forty for details.
Athletes of the Week:
Frosh/Soph: Cody Curtis- He was spectacular this week. He pinned his Opponent on Wednesday against VP and dominated in all his matches on Saturday. He has a bright future and is really fun to watch. Great job Cody
Varsity: Mateo Jaramillo- This was Mateo's first week back from what everyone thought would be a season-ending ankle injury. He has worked hard to rehabilitate his injury and find his way back on the mat for his senior season. This Saturday, he made the most of it by being crowned champ of the San Clemente Rotary Invitational. Great Job Mateo!!
